Care & Maintenance

We build our tables using eco-friendly structural timber such as Spotted Gum Hardwood, Merbau Hardwood, Treated Pine, and Untreated Pine. These materials are carefully selected for their strength and durability, ensuring that your furniture withstands outdoor conditions and serves your space for years.

However, regular maintenance is essential for all wooden furniture, regardless of the timber quality. Timber is a natural, organic material, and its appearance and performance can be affected by environmental factors such as humidity, temperature fluctuations, and sun exposure.

Please note that while our warranty covers the structural integrity of the product, it does not include natural changes like color variations, small splits, cracks, shrinkage, expansion, bowing, or sap discharge. These are normal characteristics of timber as it responds to its environment. Regular care will help minimize these changes and maintain the beauty of your furniture over time.

  • Do’s

    1. Clean Regularly: Wipe your table with a soft cloth and mild soap to remove dirt, dust, and spills.
    2. Apply Protective Coatings: Use appropriate finishes like paint, stain, or varnish to protect the timber from moisture and UV rays.
    3. Inspect Periodically: Check for early signs of wear, such as small splits or cracks, and address them promptly.
    4. Use Covers: Avoid direct sun exposure if possible. Protect the furniture with a breathable cover when not in use, especially in extreme weather conditions.
    5. Recoat When Needed: Reapply stain, varnish, or paint every few years to maintain protection and appearance. Keep in mind that this timeframe may vary depending on how much sun, rain, and other factors your furniture is exposed to.
  • Don’ts

    1. Don’t Leave Untreated: Avoid leaving timber raw if the furniture is exposed to outdoor conditions—it can lead to quicker deterioration.
    2. Don’t Use Harsh Chemicals: Stay away from abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that can strip protective coatings or damage the wood.
    3. Don’t Neglect Drainage: Avoid placing furniture directly on wet ground or uneven surfaces, which can cause water pooling or warping.
    4. Don’t Ignore Environmental Changes: Monitor humidity levels, as extreme dryness or moisture can cause shrinkage or expansion.
    5. Don’t Delay Maintenance: Prolonged neglect can lead to irreversible damage like deep cracks or rot.

General Care Tips for All Tables

  • Keep the table clean by wiping it regularly with a damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals.
  • Use coasters and placemats to prevent scratches, stains, or water rings.
  • Place your table on a level surface to avoid uneven wear.

Varnished Tables

Varnished tables have a glossy or semi-glossy protective layer that enhances the natural beauty of the wood.

Maintenance Tips:

  1. Regular Cleaning: Wipe spills immediately to avoid watermarks. Use a soft cloth with mild soap and water.
  2. Avoid Heat and Moisture: Keep the table away from direct sunlight and moisture to prevent the varnish from cracking or peeling.
  3. Re-varnishing:Reapply varnish every 1-2 years or when the finish starts looking dull or worn. Sand lightly with fine-grit sandpaper before applying a fresh coat of varnish for a smooth finish.

Stained Tables

Stained tables have a natural look with a tinted finish that penetrates the wood.

Maintenance Tips:

  1. Cleaning: Use a damp cloth for light cleaning. Avoid soaking the wood.
  2. Protective Coating: Apply a clear wood sealer or topcoat every 1-2 years to maintain protection against weathering. Sand lightly before applying the sealer to ensure proper adhesion.
  3. Touch-ups: For minor scratches or fading, use a matching wood stain to touch up the affected areas.

Painted Tables

Painted tables provide a durable and colorful finish, ideal for outdoor use.

Maintenance Tips:

  1. Cleaning: Clean gently with soapy water and a soft sponge. Avoid scrubbing, which can damage the paint.
  2. Repainting: Repaint every 2-3 years or when the paint starts to chip or fade. Sand the table lightly before repainting for a smooth and long-lasting finish.
  3. Touch-ups: Keep a small amount of the original paint to touch up chips or scratches.
  4. Weather Protection: If the table is outdoors, consider adding a clear weather-resistant topcoat for extra durability.

Seasonal Care for Outdoor Tables

Winter: Cover or store the table indoors to protect it from extreme cold or rain.

Summer: Use an umbrella or shade to minimize UV exposure, especially for varnished or stained tables.
